Itzu Rimmer paints his land. He paints that land that exists both as a concept and a reality; he walks within its breath-taking landscapes and lives among its people. He investigates the land's history, geography, politics and spirituality. He paints its buried past, ambiguous present and imaginary future. Rimmer tells the stories of the myths and demons, ancient languages and daily reality of the land. For him, this search always comes from a duality – the duality of the man and the artist; the man who is a part of the land and the artist who acts as its narrator.
Through forty years of studying painting, teaching painting and above all – painting, Rimmer has created a body of work that is diverse and coherent, beautiful and haunting. It is a body of work that traces a never-ending search for what it means to be a man and an artist of this land. Itzu Rimmer lives and works in Mitzpe Ramon, Israel. |
